It was Stella Wot Won It - 11:40 pm, Sun 4th Nov 2007
Congratulations to Stella Creasy who won Walthamstow selection after a run off with Farmida Bi. A very large turn out of members and some complicated voting meant a lot of sitting around before we got the result. Marie spoke particularly well but the support that other candidates had amassed from various quarters squeezed her out. The challenge will be how the local party can come back together and start to campaign more effectively than we have in the past.

Walthamstow selects today - 09:07 am, Sun 4th Nov 2007
Today, finally, is the selection meeting for Walthamstow. Neil Gerrard announced his retirement way back in February and this long process will finally end: the various false starts, the timetable abandoned during the leadership chnage, the murky switch to an AWS, the loss of one of the frontrunners through ill-health and a completely pointless 10 mile sponsored walk in the spring (I remain smug that refused and went leafleting instead). The frontrunners are Marie Pye, Hina Ansari and Stella Creasy. I have been backing and working with Marie who will have my first preference as she would make a brilliant MP. Had it stayed an open contest, I would have applied, though I will always defend the principle of All-Women Shortlists which have proved very successful.
